Discover the marine fauna of the Medes Islands

Fauna marina Illes Medes

The unique ecosystem of the Medes Islands, combined with its protected status as a Marine Reserve and Nature Park and the fact that it is forbidden to remove any type of resource from the area, has meant that a very varied, native flora and fauna has developed, particularly under the sea.

From the Nautilus boats we can see shoals of fish of many species that are rare in other places:  grouper, zebra seabream, sea bass, scorpionfish, common stingray and red mullet rule the sea in this part of the Costa Brava. There are also other very special, protected species such as red coral, starfish, sponges and sea urchins.

Here at Nautilus we would like to give you a challenge: Spot all the fishes and other marine animals that live among the rocks of the Medes Islands! Just because you are discovering and learning something new every day doesn’t mean it can’t be fun. Enjoy your undersea adventure while counting all the species you have seen on your trip.
